"This review is based solely on my initial in-person impressions of the State Farm office of Matt Cancino.

I have been a State Farm customer for years, maintaining coverage in several different states where I have lived and worked. A few years ago, my local State Farm agent passed away, and I was reassigned to an agent outside my normal operating area. Since most of my needs involve general questions and routine matters, I found myself missing the convenience of simply being able to walk into a local office and handle things face-to-face.

I’m still a little old school. Being able to put a face to a name and exchange an old-fashioned handshake remains my preferred modus operandi.

Matt Cancino’s office is not physically the closest State Farm office to me, but I had passed it on several occasions. It is easy to access, with no worries about parking or traffic congestion, which for a country boy at heart definitely plays a role in my “desire to travel.”

When I entered, I immediately noticed three well-spaced desks in the main area, each equipped with dual monitors. Two team members were actively speaking with clients on the telephone. Even though both were occupied, they acknowledged and greeted me right away, and one summoned Matt Cancino from his office in the rear.

Matt came out, immediately extended his hand, introduced himself, and invited me into his office. After a brief conversation about what I needed, I moved to a customer couch in the main area while Matt made phone calls on my behalf.

While I waited, the two team members continued assisting their respective clients. Both wore headsets, so I was neither privy to personal or sensitive information nor able to hear anything from the individuals on the other end of the calls. What I could hear, however, was the way the employees communicated.

I was impressed.

They sounded as though they were speaking with people as individuals, not treating them as names or numbers on a customer spreadsheet. Both conversations were professional while still being personable, which is something that unfortunately does not seem as common as it once was.

When the gentleman seated nearest the couch finished his call, he removed his headset and immediately turned his attention to me. Was I comfortable? Would I like something to drink? We then had a brief, friendly conversation before Matt returned to explain what he had learned from his phone calls.

I later stepped outside to return a few calls of my own and came back roughly 45 minutes later to check on the status of transferring my policies to Matt’s office. Both gentlemen working in the front acknowledged my return, and we engaged in some friendly small talk while Matt finished something in his office.

Matt Cancino will now be my local State Farm agent.

Like anyone with insurance, with luck, I won’t need to communicate with my agent very often. If my initial impressions are representative of how this office normally operates, however, I feel confident that when I do need assistance, Matt and his team will have my back as an individual.

I won’t simply be another name on a large spreadsheet.

State Farm may be a gigantic company, but Matt Cancino’s office gave me the impression of a small locally owned business that values its community because it considers itself part of that same community, living and working among its neighbors.

I’ll update this review if I have more tangible experiences down the road, but my first impressions were excellent, and I have no reason to doubt the professionalism or ability of Matt and his team."
